The product overview for thread locking, sealing and clamping products can be used for pre-selection. Further technical details can be found in the respective product information sheet. We will gladly help you personally to find the product that matches your application best. You can help us by answering the following questions .
Thread-locking products are used when a joint has to be secured against loosening with dynamic load, e.g. vibration. These products also have a sealing function.
Sealing products prevent leakage of different media and can be applied in the thread as well as under head. There is no increase of the breakaway torque.
Clamping products are used for adjusting screws and securing devices. There is no increase of the breakaway torque.
Please pay attention to the Technical Information in which details of dealing with coated threads are described.
Our products are exclusively processed by our global network of more than 50 qualified and certified precote® coating partners in over 20 countries. Our global network enables the worldwide availability of precote® coated threads.
The locking torque is influenced by the bonding of the adhesive to the surfaces. The surfaces should always, as with all adhesives, be free of oil and grease. Surfaces coated with a lubricant have to be tested for compatibility with precote®.
An activated surface, as with anaerobic adhesives, is not necessary when using precote®.
Version -3 is designed for very short cycle times as after 30 minutes the breakaway torque exceeds the default values of DIN 267-27.
Version -8 has been developed for small threads and pitches to reach the required breakaway torque.
Generally the curing time is 24 hours.
The final position has to be reached after 5 minutes as after that time the developing adhesive structure is destroyed. Adverse conditions can shorten this processing time.
Version -3 can be used for very short cycle times as after 30 minutes the Break Away Torque exceeds the default values of DIN 267-27.
Coated parts have to be stored cool and dry. Please also consider the details in the product information and the Packing recommendations.
There are usually no problems removing the parts when the coating was done according to DIN 267-27. When the coating length is >2d or with small screw drives disassembling can be more difficult.
Thread coatings for locking and sealing are designed for single use only. Reuse is not reliable and the locking or sealing function is not defined.
There are the following options if reassembly is necessary:
- Use a new, unused precote® coated screw after thoroughly cleaning the mating thread from adhesive residues.
- Clean the thread and the mating thread and reassemble with an anaerobic adhesive. Parts damaged by initial assembly and use must not be reused.
DIN 267-27 applies for thread locking precote® products, DIN 267-28 for clamping precote® products. Furthermore many automotive companies have own standards for pre-coated thread lockers and sealers.
Water based products that are released from omniTECHNIK can usually be used without problems. You should get in contact with us concerning that matter.
The formulation of precote 15 is tested positive according to KTW.
Yes, precote 709 provides the possibility of a controlled assembly and a non-destructive disassembly at operating temperatures up to 850°C.
